Today my blog will be talking about an legend of an iron son and dad. what does it mean? it mean both dad and son took part in the ironman race . Which was 3.8km swim, 180km cycling and lastly a full marathon of 42km run. I think everyone will think that i saiding they doing it individually right? the ans is NO. Let me roughly tell u the story:
The story began;
Dick Hoyt is dad of Rick Hoyt. Rick Hoyt was born with brain dead. He was paralyse but his parent want to treat him as a normal guy who live with normal life so he was sent to a public school like most of us went to. AS we know paralyse people cant swim, cycle and run by it own. right? Anything is possible if there is someone helping u thru the journey as these story really show it to the world.
Finally when Rich was 16 yrs old he want to took part in a charity run for paralyse so he was asking dad ( Rick) Can his dad join the run with him. Dick was not a runner at that time but once the dad heard it he agree and he make a specially design wheelchair so his dad can able to run and at the same time push the wheelchair where his son was sitting on it. It started with a 5km run, then slowly follow by the 10km and marathon, duathlon , triathlon and lastly an ironman race. After the 5km run it the 1st time that Rick feel that he is not handicapped .so together they run. Together they trekked 3770 miles in USA. u see how wei da is his dad. When Rick saw the tv programme was showing an ironman race in the tv. he told his dad he wish that he could join the ironman. As Dick ( his dad) dont want to disappointed him, he went for training and didnt disappointed his son (Rick) by joining ironman race together with him. For the ironman race, rick ( son ) was sitting on a small boat and his dad (Dick) had to swim 3.8km by dragging the boat by tie a string attach from the boat to his body. After the swim course he had to carry his son ( rick) and put he on the seat which is design for their special bicycle and his dad had to cycle 180km with 2 body weights under a hot sun. All the sweat they drop is every count of their love as in son and dad. After the cycle, his dad had to carry his son to let him sit on the wheelchairs and then the run continue. His dad ran 42km with pushing a wheelchair . Both of them didnt choose to give up and finally they complete the ironman race around 14hrs 30 mins. During the ironman race Dick( his dad ) was 49 yrs old. Can u believe a dad willing to sacrifice so many thing such as time for training, money for special equipment for the race just for his son wanted to join?
During the interview his dad told a reporter that:
